Horsham Fitness Running Tips

Buy sensible running shoes that feel comfortable and suit your running style. If you can get to a running store even better as they will help you choose a shoe that is suitable for you. Whatever you do don’t go running in shoes that are not designed for running as you will increase your risk of injury.

Don’t compare yourself to anyone else. Everyone is different and we all have different starting points. Focus on your journey.

Be flexible with your training schedule. Don’t worry if you miss a run it does not matter just look to schedule in your next run and be prepared for life to sometimes get in the way.

When starting out, run for time not distance. For example, run for 15 minutes at a really easy pace with a low heart rate. Use technology such as an Apple watch or Garmin to help you track your runs and heart rate.

Look to include Run and walk intervals in your sessions, for example 1 minute run 2 minute walk as this will help your build up your resilience to running. Always start small and look to progress week on week.

Be prepared to hit a plateau when running, just don’t get disheartened and give up.

Don’t just run. It’s really important you include resistance training like Horsham Fitness training, into your weekly schedule. Strength training can really help you become a more efficient runner and stay injury free.

Warm up correctly prior to a run and ensure you cool down after. Reach out to us for more information on pre-run mobility and post run recovery.

To improve you don’t have to run as often as you think. Sometimes just 1 or 2 runs a week can be adequate enough to help you improve especially if you combine strength and conditioning classes alongside your running.

Run with a friend or listen to a podcast to help keep you motivated especially on the days you don’t feel up to it – having that support buddy can be a huge help.
